Velliangiri - A Mountain of a Temple




Introduction


Velliangiri, located in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, India, is a mountain of great spiritual significance. The mountain is home to the Velliangiri Andavar Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is considered to be one of the most important temples in the area. The temple is also known as the "Kailash of the South" and is visited by thousands of devotees every year.

The Velliangiri Andavar Temple is a grand and magnificent structure that is built in the traditional South Indian style. The temple has several shrines and mandapams (halls) that are dedicated to various deities and saints. The main sanctum sanctorum is dedicated to Lord Shiva and houses a beautiful idol of the deity. The temple also has shrines dedicated to Lord Murugan, Lord Vinayagar, and Lord Nataraja.


The temple is also known for its beautiful sculptures and carvings that adorn the walls and pillars of the temple. The temple is surrounded by lush green gardens and a beautiful pond that adds to the serene and peaceful atmosphere of the place.


The Significance of Velliangiri:


Velliangiri is considered to be one of the most sacred mountains in South India. According to Hindu mythology, Velliangiri was the abode of Lord Shiva and Lord Murugan. It is believed that Lord Shiva and Lord Murugan performed penance on this mountain and attained enlightenment. The mountain is also said to be the place where Lord Murugan defeated the demon Surapadman.
